Dear Friends of Filasez,
We are delighted to inform you about the progress of our project, Filasez. We want to share this joy with you. Filasez is a future-oriented, independent educational initiative approved by the Primary School Office. It started in summer 2020 at Schützehüsli Rosenberg in Winterthur with a kindergarten and a playgroup, and will be successively expanded into a full-day school.
On the Road in the First Quarter
It all started with building a self-designed wooden box. A personal box that can now be filled with feathers, stones, a notebook, and other personal treasures, dreams, and wishes. You can see what the children have experienced since then on our blog.
This school launch was preceded by several months of intensive preparation. The association was founded, a corporate structure was established, an educational concept was developed, financing was prepared, and a location was found. Approval procedures were initiated, public relations work was carried out, a team was assembled, and a website was built.
Since the beginning, we have been able to rely on the unrestricted support and experience of Veronika Müller Mäder and Jürg Mäder, founders and long-time directors of the Scuola Vivante in Buchs SG, which was awarded the Swiss School Prize. A heartfelt thank you!

Filasez is a passion project; we act from the deep conviction that educational diversity is important – for the simple reason that we humans are diverse, different in our needs, forms of expression, and life paths. Filasez creates space for this diversity and sees its offerings as a complement to public schooling. Being able to be on the go and outdoors with the children in this freedom, to counter the world’s everyday confusion with something positive and valuable, makes sense, is contagious to others, and gives hope. How can we, especially in these times, create something that lasts and connects? What do children need, what should we focus on so that they can actively shape their future from their own strength? For us, this means listening carefully, observing, and experimenting.
Since summer, the Schützehüsli has provided us with a roof over our heads, under whose protection a sense of security and belonging can grow. We have begun to design our very own space and define our code, “What we do at Filasez.” In the forest, gravity is tested; children, backpacks, branches, everything rolls down the slope. They climb, swing, make fires, and brew tea from various ingredients. The campsite, in turn, shows us other forms of communal living. We meet people who help us find answers to questions about being on the go. Why does the campsite need a barrier, and what are the numbers on the ground for? Every child can develop their personality, is encouraged to form their own point of view, and every day offers a chance and a new beginning. Thanks to the native French assistant, the foreign language naturally flows into our daily lives. Ears perk up, expressions are sought, or simply mimicked. Of course, you can also say “poubelle” for “Chübel.” Whether it’s vegetable soup with nettles or omelets in the caravan – the meal prepared together for lunch has its very own taste. What do we do? We give wonder time, we learn meaningfully and project-oriented, we value community and connection, and above all, we laugh a lot.

We ask for your generous donations
Unlike public schools, independent schools like Filasez receive no subsidies. The Filasez tuition fee concept is designed so that the school is self-sustaining at full capacity. For parents who cannot pay the full tuition fee, we are setting up a scholarship fund. It is our concern that the freedom to choose a school is guaranteed regardless of income. During the development phase, where financing is one of our biggest challenges, we are actively fundraising. We ask you to support Filasez according to your means with small, medium, and large donations, interest-free loans, or material donations! The Filasez association has been granted non-profit status: the expansion of Filasez’s educational offerings is in the public interest.
